Kinetic sculpture made from metal, charcoal, charred wood and pyrophytic seedpods
Life, by any other name is, in the words of writer Marjolein van der Loo, “a kinetic mobile composed of burned wood and seedpods of fire-adapted species—some fully charred, others half-burned, some opening only through heat. Suspended from thin black rods like drawn lines, the fragments drift with a passerby’s movement or a faint current of air, suggesting that what we call “remains” still holds agency, motion, and ecological possibility.” In Life by any other name, life and death are not opposites but form a fleeting connection.
