On Fire reflects upon the chapter that has guided Eline Kersten’s artistic practice for the past years – the fire chapter, if you will. The artist publication unfolds along three works: the multi-channel video installation While the Fire Burns (2023-2024), the screen print series All that remains (2025), and the kinetic sculpture Life, by any other name (2025). Each of the works identify, visualize and critique different perceptions on wildfires. The book also features the essay Living with Fire written by curator and author Marjolein van der Loo.
The works that are discussed in On Fire address the challenges we face, create awareness around climate issues, highlight the connection between humans, fire and land, and invite us to rethink our relationships with life and death. In this book Eline Kersten imagines fire otherwise.
